Dialogue meeting: Danish ways towards sourcing responsibly produced soy
DIEH invites members and specially invited stakeholders to this closed dialogue meeting on responsible soy purchase, Tuesday April 4 from 13.00 - 16.00.
During the past decade Denmark has annually imported between 1.4-1.8 million tons of soybean meal, 80 % of which is used for pig feed. The soybean meal is primary imported from Argentina and Brazil, where expansion of soy production has forsaken large scale deforestation. These areas have, according to WWF, some of the richest biodiversity and densest population of indigenous people, whom are reallocated due to the expansion of soy production.
DIEH brings together key stakeholders to this dialogue meeting, which will include public and private perspectives to expolore challenges, opportunities and Danish ways towards sourcing of responsibly produced soy.
On the dialogue you will meet Hlif Ivy Linnetved, WWF-Denmark, who will present WWF's work and recommendations on soy purchase followed by Daan van der Wekken, IDH - Sustainable Trade Initiative, who will present IDH's soy sourcing policies and programmes. This will be followed by a presentation from Peter De Koning, Amsterdam Declarations, who will present the declarations and other soy-related initiatives. Last but not least we welcome Per Olsen, Danish Agriculture and Food Council, who will present their work with responsible use of soy.
After the break we welcome the following three presenters to give us insights to business perspectives related to responsible use of soy: Thomas Roland, Head of CSR, Coop and by Eddy Esselink, Sustainable Development, MVO
The meeting is funded by Danida.
