Open letter to the Steering Committee of the Social and Labour Convergence Project (SLCP)

The JETIs and Fair Wear Foundation call for the SLCP to include responsible purchasing practices in its tool and methodology.

Responsible purchasing practices are increasingly recognized as key to sustainable business, highlighted both by the UNGPs and the OECD guidelines.

Some concerns about the adoption and implementation of the converged assessment tool. Reducing duplicative audits is good. However, the most important issue to address is what happens after the assessment. Acceptable working conditions must be the number one goal, and responsible purchasing practices are increasingly recognized as key in achieving this.
